Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that the rehabilitation work of the main bridge at Chadoora has been awarded for Rs 999.54 lakh, with the work presently in progress.
The information was provided by the Public Works (R&B) Department in response to a starred question raised by Chadoora MLA Ali Mohammad Dar regarding the status of bridges in the constituency.
According to the government reply, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the main bridge at Chadoora town was declared unsafe and closed to vehicular traffic with effect from November 28, 2025.
The bridge was subsequently technically inspected by NIT Srinagar, following which recommendations were received on February 2, 2026. Based on the recommendations, the DPR for rehabilitation was prepared, and Administrative Approval was accorded for Rs 999.54 lakh.
The government said the work was awarded on August 3, 2026, and is currently in progress.
Regarding the alternate bridge near New Bus Stand, Chadoora, the department said the bridge has already been constructed. However, its approach road connecting it with Chadoora-Maibugh Road remains incomplete due to pending land acquisition.
An amount of Rs 50 lakh has been provided under UT Capex 2026-27 for completion of the approach road. The land acquisition process and alignment feasibility are presently in progress, following which the approach road and commissioning of the bridge will be taken up.
On the Hanjigund-Chadoora bridge, the government said it forms part of the work for construction of a road diversion from Hanjigund to Chadoora via Dawlatpora, including a 1×35-metre span truss girder bridge.
The project was sanctioned under NABARD RIDF-XXVII. The bridge and around 2.50 km of road have been completed, with the overall physical progress standing at 76 per cent.
The remaining work had been affected by land ownership issues and litigation in WP(C) No. 54/2024 before the High Court of J&K and Ladakh. The government said the matter has since been taken up following the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, and the project is nearing completion except for a minor portion—(KNO)
